    Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

26 December 2026 – 1 January 2027provisionalSydney Harbour to the Derwent River — Sydney, Australia

The Sydney Hobart is the southern hemisphere's defining offshore race: a Boxing Day start out of Sydney Heads, down the New South Wales coast, across the Bass Strait, and up the Derwent to Hobart. It rewards preparation over everything, and it generates more sailing search traffic in a single week than most events manage in a season.

Official organiser: Cruising Yacht Club of AustraliaOrganiser profile & their other events

Dates shown are indicative windows based on where each event traditionally sits in the season. Always confirm the current edition with the organiser before booking or entering.

    Race format

    • 628 nautical miles, single stage, monohull fleet racing under IRC and ORCi
    • Traditional 26 December start inside Sydney Harbour, finishing in Hobart, Tasmania
    • Line honours and overall handicap honours awarded separately
    • Bass Strait weather is the defining tactical and safety factor

    Who it suits

    • Offshore programmes and campaign teams looking for a marquee result
    • Marine brands and suppliers running seasonal sponsorship activations
    • Sailing media and clubs building race-week content and live coverage

    Planning notes

    • Entry, safety, and qualifying-mile requirements are set by the organising authority — check the notice of race early in the year.
    • Accommodation in Hobart is booked out well before Christmas; plan shore-side logistics months ahead.
    • For brands: race week traffic spikes hard and briefly, so publish landing pages and tracker explainers before the start, not during it.
