Boat Booking Website Audit Checklist
Score your booking flow against the 42 checks we run before quoting a boat booking build.
Availability & search
Most lost bookings happen before the enquiry: the visitor cannot tell whether the boat is free.
- Live availability is visible per boat and per date without contacting you
- Date and guest-count search returns only boats that can actually take the booking
- Blocked dates, maintenance days and turnaround gaps are respected in search results
- Duration rules (half day, full day, minimum nights) are enforced in the picker
- Sold-out dates suggest the nearest available alternative instead of a dead end
- Availability is correct on mobile without pinch-zooming a desktop calendar
- Time zones and local cut-off times are handled for same-day bookings
Pricing & quoting
A price the visitor cannot reconstruct is a price they will ring a competitor about.
- Base rate per boat and per season is published, not "price on request"
- Seasonal, weekend and holiday pricing rules are applied automatically
- Extras (skipper, fuel, catering, water toys, transfers) are priced in the quote
- Taxes, VAT, APA or local fees are itemised before checkout, not after
- Security deposit and refundable amounts are stated explicitly
- The quote total updates live as dates, guests and extras change
- Quotes can be saved, emailed or shared with a group decision-maker
Checkout & payment
Count the taps from boat page to paid deposit. Anything over about six is worth fixing.
- A deposit can be paid online without a phone call or bank transfer
- Card payments plus at least one local method your market actually uses
- Balance due date is shown at checkout and reminded automatically
- Guest details, waivers and licence checks are collected in the same flow
- Cancellation and refund terms are visible before payment, not buried in a PDF
- Confirmation email arrives immediately with booking reference and next steps
- Failed and abandoned payments are recoverable rather than silently lost
Admin & operations
If a booking creates manual work, the website is only half built.
- Bookings land in one calendar the whole crew can see
- Staff can create, move and cancel a booking without developer help
- Boat records, rates and photos are editable by your team
- Skipper and crew assignment is visible per booking
- Manifest, waiver and payment status can be checked from a phone on the dock
- Exports or accounting sync exist for month-end reconciliation
- Overbooking is impossible by design, not by staff diligence
SEO & discoverability
The checks that decide whether the booking flow ever gets traffic.
- Each boat has its own indexable URL with a unique title and description
- Location and boat-type landing pages exist for the searches you want
- Product, Offer and FAQ structured data is valid on boat pages
- Images are compressed and lazy-loaded; largest boat page passes Core Web Vitals
- Canonical tags stop duplicate date-filtered URLs competing with each other
- The sitemap lists every boat and landing page and is submitted to Search Console
- Booking pages are not blocked by robots.txt or a noindex left over from staging
Tracking & follow-up
You cannot fix a funnel you cannot measure.
- Analytics records boat view, availability check, quote, checkout start and paid booking
- Enquiry and booking conversion rates are known per boat and per channel
- Abandoned quotes trigger a follow-up email within 24 hours
- Enquiries have a single owner and a stated response-time target
- Post-charter review request is automated and feeds your listing pages
- Repeat-customer and referral offers are sent from stored booking history
- Phone and WhatsApp enquiries are logged against the same pipeline as web bookings
How to read your score
- Score every item pass, partial or fail. Do not soften a partial into a pass — partials are where bookings leak.
- Under 20 passes: the site is a brochure with an enquiry form. A booking flow is a rebuild, not a plugin.
- 20–32 passes: the flow works but leaks. Fix pricing transparency and checkout taps before spending on ads.
- 33+ passes: the mechanics are sound. Put the next budget into SEO landing pages and follow-up automation.
